In September 2023 another team from The Guru Projects Foundation traveled to the Hospital Universitario Erasmo Meoz in the City of Cucuta, Northern Colombia. Following on from the success of the foundation's inaugural trip to Colombia in February, the team was again welcomed with open arms to beautiful Colombia. The mission was simple; to provide life-changing eye surgery on people who would not normally have access to this kind of healthcare. Thank you to Dr Juan Carlos Superlano who worked hard to perform all the screening visits to identify patients who would benefit most from the surgery that the Foundation has to offer.
Again a massive thank you to all the contributors who made our second trip to Colombia a success: Alcon, Rayner, Zeiss and Ansell.
Similar to the last trip, the team managed to put on a successful programme of teaching medical students at the University of Santander.
The team comprised of eight volunteers:
Mr Manuel Saldana (Consultant Ophthalmologist, East Sussex)
Dr Kanchan Sharma (Consultant Neurologist, Bristol)
Mrs Tracey Kemp (Nurse, East Sussex)
Mr Shahram Kashani (Consultant Ophthalmologist, East Sussex)
